Korean Mythology Playing Cards
A custom designed deck of playing cards inspired by Korean mythology. Each card in the deck features hand drawn illustrations of mythological characters from Korean folklore, figures that shaped my imagination growing up through stories told by my grandma.
This project is not only a visual and functional design exercise but also a personal exploration of cultural identity, memory, and legacy.
Role: Illustration, Graphic Design, Packaging
The pattern on the box and on the back of the cards draws inspiration from traditional Korean motifs, designs often seen in architecture, textiles, and ceramics, which I grew up surrounded by in my grandparents’ home back in Korea.
By weaving them into the visual language of the project, I intended for the cards to carry that same sense of cultural grounding that brought me comfort and identity during my childhood years.
